Rules, proof and documents differ per country

Importing a car as moving goods is not always straightforward

Importing a car as moving goods may seem simple, but each country applies its own rules.
You must be able to demonstrate that you are genuinely relocating, that the car is your property, and that it was in use prior to the move.
In addition, VAT and import regulations differ per country, and missing documents or incorrect forms can lead to delays or additional costs. Without experience, the process can therefore become unnecessarily complicated

Conditions and rules for importing your car as moving goods

Anyone wishing to import a car as moving goods must meet a number of conditions.
These rules vary by country, but generally the following guidelines apply:

  • Moving goods status: you must be able to prove that you are actually relocating and that the vehicle is for personal use (for example with a residence or work permit).
  • Ownership and use: the car must be your personal property and must have been in your possession prior to the relocation.
  • Duration of stay: you must have lived abroad for at least 12 months before relocating or returning.

Do you meet these conditions? Then you can often import your vehicle without import duties or VAT. Marlog Europe checks whether you qualify and arranges the entire process: from documentation and transport to customs and vehicle registration.
