What do the new import tariffs from the US mean?

On March 12, new import tariffs of 25% were imposed in the US on steel and aluminum from abroad. In response, the EU announced countermeasures, including tariffs on typically American products such as jeans, whiskey, and motorcycles. These tariffs will come into effect in mid-April 2025.

In 2018, additional tariffs were already introduced under the leadership of Donald Trump. At that time, the EU also responded with countermeasures. However, this time, the measures in the US are somewhat stricter. As a result, many more companies will be affected by these measures. The European Commission calculated that it will involve approximately 26 billion euros worth of affected European goods.

For Marlog, this means that boats, jet skis, and motorcycles made in the US will be subject to additional import tariffs starting in mid-April. It doesn’t matter where the goods are shipped from; if they were produced in the US, extra import duties will apply.

The exact amount of import duties that will need to be paid on these vehicles is not yet known, but in 2018, the additional tariff was 25%. Additionally, a second package of measures/goods will be introduced in mid-April. Details about this package have not yet been disclosed and will be announced later.
