What is vehicle registration for an imported car?

When you import a vehicle from abroad into the Netherlands, it must be officially registered with the RDW. This car import registration procedure is mandatory before the vehicle is allowed on public roads.

During the RDW registration process:

  • The chassis number is checked
  • Documents are reviewed
  • The vehicle registration is prepared

After the inspection, a BPM tax declaration must be submitted. Once this has been approved and/or paid, the RDW will issue a Dutch vehicle registration certificate.

How does RDW vehicle registration work at Marlog?

You don’t have to arrange anything yourself. We take care of the entire vehicle registration process for your imported car.

We’ve streamlined the process into clear steps:

1. Vehicle document check
We check the foreign vehicle documents for accuracy and completeness. The most important documents are the foreign registration certificate, purchase invoice, and COC document.
2. RDW inspection & identification
We have an RDW accreditation that allows us to register vehicles more quickly. This means we do not need to take your car to the RDW ourselves.
3. BPM declaration
We handle the complete BPM tax declaration and ensure the lowest possible BPM amount.
4. License plate application
After the BPM payment has been processed, we receive the Dutch registration number from the RDW. With this, you can arrange the vehicle insurance.
5. Registration certificate & plates
We order the Dutch luxury license plates, and your car will be ready for you.
